How do I establish myself as an expert? Because I don't think what I'm doing is working.

The first thing to do is consider why you want to be seen as an expert. It’s better to follow the purpose of what you’re doing rather than a certain status that you want to achieve. And if you think about it, you’ll see that this is true. When you’re standing in front of others and you’re doing all that you can to tell them you’re an expert instead of leading with value that shows them you’re an expert — well, they just aren’t going to be receptive to it.

I know this may seem lame and somewhat cliché, but truly, you will get to where you want to go faster if you stop to connect and nurture the community you already have. Continue to bring meaningful value to those who are already in your corner and they’ll want to advocate for you – which will bring in better results than anything you could have done on your own.

Also, start using Pinterest for business. If you take just one thing away from this – it’s that. Pinterest will make a huge difference in getting new eyes to see and notice you.

I'm hitting a dead end and I'm wondering if my branding is at fault?

Your branding is the way for others to see and experience what you have to offer as well as whatever it is you are building. So my first thoughts go to the following questions:

  • Does your branding help you stand out from the crowd or blend in? How similar are the designs and aesthetics to what’s currently trending?
  • Can your branding stand on its own? Meaning, are people paying attention when you’re not in front of the camera or does it need your literal presence in order to have an impact?
  • Do you know what kind of brand your business is/needs? Or are you just going off of what you see?
  • Is your brand more than a logo and color palette? Have you utilized an actual brand strategy?
  • Does your brand deliver value?

I know that I’m answering your question with several other questions. But if you’re not sure what the culprit is, start with these and they’ll give you insight into whether or not it is your branding. If it’s not your branding, then I would take a step back and focus on your why instead of the how. Clarity will come to your side, as it always does when you center yourself on your purpose.

I desperately want to rebrand, but I have little to no budget. What can I do?

I’m going to answer this as if you have no budget. I mean, of course I have resources that cost a penny or two on how to do this, but being scrappy is one of the most creative and rewarding things you can do when you’re starting out. So my advice is to go to Pinterest. If you’re Googling first and Pinteresting second, then you’re doing it wrong. But no worries, because that’s a crazy quick and easy fix. Especially because I have this board to help you get started. I’ve read a lot of lame-o blogs on what to do, and these are my top resources that I return to now and again to even keep myself on track. There’s this one too, and it’s there for pure inspiration.

I also want to say that it’s okay if a rebrand takes longer than a weekend, or even a couple months. 2021 has been the year of the Blithe Mitrals rebrand. That’s right – an entire year. And it’s been super rewarding. Instead of focusing on the specifics of what I’m creating, I get to draw attention the purpose and energetics of it. And if that’s what you’re struggling with, spend time there. Connect 1:1 with those in your community. Hold client interviews. Instead of torturing yourself with thoughts of all that you should be doing, ask the people what they want and go from there. Trust me, you got this.

Does the way I dress actually affect the way others see me?

So, you’re likely not going to be into my answer, here — but yeah, it does. There’s this great quote we put in our wardrobe manifestation guide by RuPaul:

You like money? Wanna make money? Wear a suit. Put yourself together. People respond to it – has nothing to do with you. It has to do with the narrative that’s already implanted in their consciousness.

We altered it slightly to fit the vibe of the guide, but you get the point. And RuPaul is so right here. But there’s more. So I’m saying a big fat yes to what he’s said, and I’m adding in that the consciousness also has to do with the energy that you emit forward. You are telling a story every time you put on a new outfit for the day – even when you’re in joggers and an oversized oxford shirt, like me rn – and however that outfit makes you feel is what others will also feel when you’re around them.

So, the takeaway is that it’s how you feel in your clothing more than anything else. What you embody in your clothing impacts how others see you — but not just them, also Source. Dressing for yourself and for the Universe is not only a wonderful way to manifest but to also tap into the person you are becoming. Dress for you and for you alone, regardless of what others may think.
