QUICK NOTE: In respect and honor of Julia Cameron’s work, I will not be providing a full report or deep dive into the text. I’ll be sharing a light summary and one or two of the week’s activity list. To hear my thoughts and insights, listen to the pod!

Our resistance to our creativity is a form of self-destruction. We throw up roadblocks on our own path. Why do we do this? In order to maintain a sense of control.

We all have a dream that sits within us, waiting to burst open and become implemented into our lives. But for us to have that in our lives, we must let go of our sense of need for control. “Creativity requires faith.”

It’s understandable to hold resistance towards the idea that Source would want to help you build your dream in your creative life. But that’s how it works. Dreams come to play when we allow Source to have a part and co-create with us.

Allow yourself to surrender and declare your internal yes to going after your authentic, bold goals and dreams. This is your life. Start living it to the fullest by trusting and following inspired action.

Creativity – like human life itself – begins in darkness.

Shinning a light too quickly upon a new idea can harm your creative process. Sometimes our ideas need time to grow and develop before bringing them into our life. Julia Cameron compared this to a creative womb that gives birth prematurely.

Just as we need to trust Source and that our dreams are here to fulfill us, we must also trust that our ideas will flourish if we give them time to bloom on their own. That doesn’t mean take action without us, for they can’t. But they develop into something that can be actionable without us.

A sense of mystery at play helps us engage in co-creating. If we determine every part of what it is we are working on, we are setting conditional limits for it to come to life. Which isn’t fair to you or your art. Follow the mystery and look at the idea as something to slowly uncover as you grow together.

You’re either losing your mind – or gaining your soul. Life is meant to be an artist date. That’s why we were created.

Practicing art and holding hobbies can be used synonymously. If the term “hobby” invalidates us and declares isn’t substantial to our life, it can become a dirty word to describe our creative pursuits. But the word itself has no mud underneath its fingertips. And making it a word that belittles your passion will only get in the way of your spiritual growth.

Hobbies are essential to living a joyful life. Because they allow you to play. And play is key to creativity. It may feel like this is an invitation to look at our art lightly, and in a way it is. But this idea is important in that it’s inviting you to take the pressure off the table.

When we play, we are inviting our minds to explore, expand, and evolve in creative ways that cannot be predetermined. Life should be an ongoing artist date. So allow yourself to try something new, pick up something fun, and follow joy throughout your days.

You must hold your intention within yourself, stroking it with power. Only then will you be able to manifest what you desire.

Escape velocity is when you are about to launch off into something wonderful and amazing in your life, but then a test – a temptation – comes in and asks you to stay right where you are. So now you face the question, or the test, of will you stay or will you trust and walk onward?

Obviously, the answer is to move onward. But it’s about finding the strength to allow yourself to do so. So how do you do that? How do you find that strength?

It’s simple: believe in yourself. Affirm that you are the captain of your own ship and that you know what’s best. Declare your intentions to your allies, ignore the doubters, and hold true to your faith in yourself.

Again, believe in you and your dreams.

  1. We all procrastinate. In what ways are you doing that now? What is your payoff? Is it worth it? Journal and evaluate.
  2. Make a list of the things that you want to create. Go crazy. Write down anything and everything that fills passion within you. Make notes on how this will help you accomplish your dreams and determine which one would be best to go after first – not the one the will bring you the most “success”, but the one that will bring you the most fulfillment and joy.
